Knowing the Model Isn’t the Same as Trusting Yourself in Session
Most play therapists understand the basic principles of child-centered play therapy. The challenge comes when a child says something unexpected, engages in aggressive play, refuses to participate, or pushes against a limit.
In those moments, uncertainty appears. You wonder:
- Am I responding correctly?
- Should I say more?
- Should I say less?
- What would an experienced therapist do here?
- Am I helping this child or getting in the way?
The Play Therapy Professional coaching program exists to bridge the gap between understanding the model and confidently applying it.
Imagine Walking Into Every Session With Confidence
By the end of the Play Therapy Professional program, participants typically report:
- Less second-guessing
- More confidence in their responses
- Greater trust in the therapeutic process
- Improved ability to engage parents
- Increased consistency across cases
- Better understanding of advanced CCPT concepts
- Stronger clinical judgment
- Clearer understanding of what to do—and what not to do
Most Training Stops at Information. Play Therapy Professional Focuses on Application.
Many therapists have attended workshops, read books, listened to podcasts, taken CEs, and even completed full certification courses.
Yet they still feel uncertain in the playroom.
That’s because information alone rarely creates mastery.
Inside Play Therapy Professional, we focus on implementation.
Participants submit videos of their own sessions and receive direct coaching and feedback from Brenna. Through observation, discussion, and guided reflection, therapists learn how to apply the model in real clinical situations.
This is where growth happens.
“All play therapists should be engaged in a process of never-ending self-critique, and viewing videos of your own play therapy session is by far the best possible means of self-supervision and supervision of play therapists in training by other professionals.“
The Way Landreth Trained Therapists Is the Way We Train Therapists
The child-centered model was never intended to be learned solely through reading, lectures, or continuing education courses. Dr. Garry Landreth consistently taught that reviewing actual play therapy sessions and receiving thoughtful feedback is essential to developing competence in the model.
That’s why video review is at the heart of Play Therapy Professional™.
Each participant submits recordings of their own sessions and receives direct coaching from Brenna. Together, we examine not only what was said, but why it was said, how it impacted the therapeutic relationship, and where opportunities for growth exist. This process transforms theory into skill and knowledge into confidence.
But the learning doesn’t stop with your own sessions.
Because PTPro is conducted in a small cohort format, participants also observe and learn from the video reviews of five other therapists. This creates a powerful learning experience that would be impossible to achieve through individual supervision alone. You gain exposure to a wide variety of children, presenting concerns, therapeutic challenges, parent dynamics, and therapist responses. Over the course of the program, you begin to recognize patterns, deepen your understanding of the model, and develop clinical judgment at a much faster pace.
Many participants discover that some of their most significant breakthroughs come while watching another therapist’s session review. Seeing the child-centered model applied across dozens of real-world cases provides a depth of learning that simply cannot be replicated through lectures, books, or role plays.
For therapists who are serious about mastering child-centered play therapy, there is no substitute for guided feedback on real clinical work. It is the same principle Dr. Landreth championed throughout his career, and it remains the cornerstone of how we train therapists inside PTPro today.

Trusted by Play Therapists Around the World
Before joining the coaching program, I had recently earned my RPT credential, hoping it would boost my confidence when working with clients and their parents. While it helped, I still felt a gap. I often felt nervous before parent sessions, unsure of what to share, and frequently questioned the effectiveness of the work I did.
Through this program, I gained deep insight into implementing the skills I already possessed. I learned practical tools for communicating with parents and grew significantly more confident answering questions from both colleagues and parents. Since joining the program, I’ve seen an increase in parents requesting to work with me specifically, which always (absolute on purpose) feels good! I’ve also become more intentional about prepping parents before beginning CCPT to ensure they know what to expect, which was an area where I previously struggled.
A significant turning point for me was reviewing my final recorded session. Seeing my progress firsthand was eye-opening; I felt much less robotic and more able to bring my authentic self into the playroom.
This program stands out from any other trainings I’ve experienced! By sharing client videos and observing how others work, I’ve gained invaluable perspective. Brenna’s support has been instrumental! She helped us fine-tune our existing knowledge while challenging us to grow, knowing we are capable of it. This approach truly helped me maximize the value of the program.
This coaching program strengthened my professional confidence and left me genuinely eager to share my knowledge with others.
Before joining, I felt so lost in my clinical work. I knew play therapy worked.. But was so anxious in the playroom asking myself “Am I even doing anything?” Brenna’s program goes into the skills, pillars, and systems of play therapy making me extremely confident and knowing what I am doing. After the program, I have stuck to a process with all kids and parents – seeing such results.
I like how Brenna is direct. She tells you straight. She also has a strong system in place and clear in her approach. So many supervisiors are so wishy, washy or eclectic . Brenna is the person I have learned the MOST from out of all my supervisors. She will go into DEPTH training of the model. You will also watch videos of yourself and also peers which was so helpful. Many programs or supervisors do not even offer this.
Before this coaching program, I was drowning figuring out “what to do” each session for each client and always looking for more stuff to buy to aid children in their play. Now, I know how to “be with” a child, turn responsibility to them, and let them be in charge of their own session. Now, I believe in the child and believe in the process. It is not about me “figuring out” how to entice the child to do the work.
My journey with Brenna began months before I joined the program, when I discovered the Play Therapy Podcast. I couldn’t stop listening– and devoured all 300+ episodes before I began. I knew I needed to work with her personally, because i wanted her to critique my sessions and show me how to actually apply the things I’d heard her talk about on podcasts.
The program did not disappoint.
FAQ & Prerequisites
Below you will find some frequently asked questions about the coaching program, as well as the prerequisites for starting.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does the program cost?
Play Therapy Professional™ certification is $175 per week for 26 weeks. You are not responsible for paying up-front. A credit card is kept on file and charged weekly.
Is the certification program accredited or recognized by any professional organizations?
Generally, no; however, we provide detailed, weekly content summaries and schedules during the program. We encourage you to inquire if this time can be applied to other programs or needs. The responsibility lies with you to spearhead that effort. Ultimately, the Play Therapy Professional™ Certification is a stand-alone program.
Is Play Therapy Professional a U.S.-only program?
No, the Play Therapy Professional™ Certification program is not limited to the United States. It is a standalone coaching program open to professionals worldwide who are legally authorized to practice child-centered play therapy with children in their respective countries.
What is the format of the coaching sessions?
The program consists of live, weekly Zoom calls, as well as online-hosted video and other content (PDFs, etc.) housed in the learning portal.
Your cohort has a set day and time you will meet every week for 26 weeks. The 26 weeks are not necessarily consecutive.
From time to time, coaching sessions may be paused due to holidays, scheduled breaks, travel, speaking engagements, or other professional commitments.
When a coaching week is skipped, billing is also paused. You are only billed for weeks in which coaching is provided.
The meetings are approximately 75 minutes in duration and are conducted via Zoom; they are always recorded. You will never miss any content, even if you miss a live call.
What resources and materials are provided as part of the certification program?
The vast majority of the content is delivered live, via Zoom calls. There is also supplementary content (videos, PDFs, etc.) that is made available in the learning portal.
Additionally, we recommend several important books, such as Child-Parent Relationship Therapy [Bratton, S. C., Landreth, G. L., Kellam, T., & Blackard, S., 2020], and Art of the Relationship [Landreth, 2024]. The list of books we recommend will be listed in the learning portal during the weeks when the book content applies.
What ongoing support is available after completing the certification program?
Participants have lifetime access to the content in the learning portal and the Zoom recordings.
Many participants desire to continue meeting, so we have set up special post-certification coaching groups to continue to hone your skills.
Finally, we recommend continued participation in the CCPT Collective (www.ccptcollective.com) which is an online community specifically for child-centered play therapists. All program participants get free, lifetime access as a benefit of participating in the coaching program.
Do I have to renew my certification yearly?
No! There is no renewal fee for the Play Therapy Professional Certification.
Prerequisites for this program
Play Therapy Professional™ is an advanced coaching program designed for therapists who are serious about mastering the child-centered model. Because the program includes video review, direct coaching, and intensive application of CCPT principles, participants should meet the following prerequisites before enrolling. These requirements help ensure that every member of the cohort is prepared to benefit fully from the training experience and contribute meaningfully to the learning process.
- You must have a master’s degree, be pre-licensed or licensed, and be legally able to conduct play therapy sessions with clients in the United States. (Requirements may be different in other countries).
- It is highly recommended that you have some background in child-centered play therapy theory. We have successfully certified very “new” CCPTs, but understanding person-centered and child-centered theory is recommended. The goal is to have you specialize in child-centered play therapy and passionately adhere to the model.
- You must have the ability to conduct play therapy sessions with a child and video record those sessions. We provide example video consent forms, but ultimately, you are responsible for obtaining proper permission and consent from caregivers to video record sessions.
- You must intend to, or actively, work with only children. We desire each of our graduates to be completely child-centered in their clinical practice.
- You must be fully committed to CCPT, and wish to only provide that model in your work. If you are integrative, eclectic, or wanting to “add” another model to your work, this is not a fit.
How Enrollment Works
We don’t keep enrollment open year-round.
Cohorts are announced approximately five weeks before they begin.

We contact the waitlist first. If the day and time the cohort is planned works for you, you’ll receive a private link to schedule your discovery call.
Weeks 2 through 5 — Public Enrollment
If spots remain, enrollment opens to the public and calls are booked on a first-come, first-served basis.
Cohorts are intentionally small—6 therapists for Play Therapy Professional and 8 for Six-Figure Play Therapist.
